Abstract:

Objective(s): To determine awareness of managers of private hospitals about PATIENT RIGHTS and its effective factors in Tehran, Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among all managers of private hospitals in Tehran (N=35), using a questionnaire including 32 questions. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistical procedures. Results: The results showed that 23% of managers had good level of awareness. However, 54% and 23% of them had intermediate and low level of awareness regarding PATIENT RIGHTS, respectively. There were four effective factors on awareness of the managers about PATIENT RIGHTS including educational degree, discipline, academic institute and training in management. Conclusion: 77% of the managers had less than good level of awareness regarding PATIENT RIGHTS. As awareness could be a proxy of consequent behavior, therefore it could be predicted that the managers might perform inadequately in their responsibilities related to PATIENT RIGHTS.It seems that there is need to promote awareness on PATIENT RIGHTS among hospital managers.

Abstract:

Background: Currently, increased knowledge of PATIENTs over their RIGHTS has been accompanied with greater demands and expectations and thus, it is of prime necessity to all members of medical care including hospital managers, to be fully aware of such RIGHTS.Objective: To comparatively determine the managers' knowledge on PATIENT RIGHTS in Tehran public and private hospitals. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in 2004. All managers of public and private hospitals in Tehran were included (n=70). Data were collected using a 36-question questionnaire and further analyzed by SPSS. Fisher and c2 tests were used for statistical analysis.Findings: Among the public hospitals managers, 34.5% were found with good level of knowledge on PATIENT RIGHTS, 48.5% with medium and 17% with poor knowledge. In the same way, 23% of private hospitals managers were shown to have good level of knowledge, 54% with medium and 23% with poor knowledge on PATIENT RIGHTS. There was no meaningful difference between the levels of knowledge among two groups. Conclusion: Based on data found in our study, lack of good knowledge on PATIENT RIGHTS was obvious among the managers of both public and private hospitals. Since the knowledge is considered as a solid base for appropriate functionality, it could be predicted that the performance of hospital managers on PATIENT RIGHTS to be in parallel with the extent of their knowledge. Thus, a comprehensive series of training courses on “PATIENT’s bill of RIGHTS” for health care members including hospital managers is suggested.

Abstract:

Abstract Background: Upholding PATIENTs’ RIGHTS is a fundamental aspect of medical and professional ethics within the field of mental health. Recognizing and honoring PATIENTs’ RIGHTS is crucial for building trust in healthcare relationships and delivering high-quality, personalized services that meet their needs. The purpose of this study is to investigate the observance of PATIENTs’ RIGHTS in psychological centers in Karaj from the perspective of PATIENTs and healthcare providers. Methods: This descriptive and analytical study was conducted in 2022. The participants of this study, PATIENTs (63 people) and nurses (64 people) referred to Karaj psychology centers in the period of 2014-2018 were included in the study by simple random sampling method. The study utilized a researcher-developed, multi-section questionnaire comprising a demographic information checklist and an assessment tool measuring participants’ awareness of and adherence to the PATIENT’s RIGHTS Charter. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS statistical software, version 16. Results: The results showed that the most participants in the research were 42.5% in the age range of 20 to 30 years. 78.8% were male and 84.3% were single. 89% had undergraduate education. A two-sample t-test showed that there was no significant difference in the mean score of PATIENTs’ and nurses’ views on PATIENT comfort, managers’ perception, and personnel performance (p>0.05). Conclusion: According to the results, PATIENTs’ RIGHTS are relatively well respected in Karaj psychology centers, as there was no significant difference between the views of PATIENTs and nurses about PATIENT comfort, managers’ perceptions, and staff performance. However, larger and more diverse studies are recommended to confirm the results and further generalization. Also, training healthcare providers on PATIENTs’ RIGHTS is important.
